Candida albicans isolated from blood and sputum with Candida parapsilosis isolated from chest tube drainage in a esophageal carcinoma patient

Abstract
Candidiasis is the most frequently encountered opportunistic fungal infection, and the incidence of it is increasing now. Candida albicans is the main pathogen isolated from human infections, especially in patients with immune suppression and aging hosts. Candida parapsilosis can cause endopthalmitis, endocarditis, and fungemia. However, it is very rarely isolated from sputum. I experienced a case of fungemia and pneumonia caused by Candida albicans in a 67 year-old male patient with squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus. Candida parapsilosis was isolated from his chest tube drainage simultaneously. It is very rare that two different Candida species are isolated from chest in one patient.
